Seedpay is a South African social impact startup that bridges the gap between the digital economy and informal workers. As society moves away from cash, car guards, street vendors, and local hustlers are being left behind—unable to receive payment in a world of swipes and scans. Seedpay solves this problem with simple, scannable QR codes that let anyone receive money instantly, even without a bank card or terminal.

How it works
To pay with Seedpay, simply open your camera app and scan the QR code. Then, choose the amount you’d like to give and select your preferred payment method. Once you’re ready, confirm the payment — and just like that, your supporting someone’s livelihood and the local economy. Whether it’s a quick R5 thank you or a generous R100 for great service, every bit helps.
The person receiving the payment doesn’t need a smartphone, bank account, or any special device. All they need is a cell phone number. Payments are linked to their number, and when they’re ready, they receive a voucher code via SMS. They can then withdraw their cash at any Standard Bank ATM or participating store (Spar, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, House&Home, Checkers, Boxer, PEP, OTT, OK Furniture).
